
Chancellor’s Excellence in Advising Award
The Chancellor’s Awards are designed to recognize excellence in teaching and advising across UTK. These awards specifically seek to reward those individuals who are uniquely effective in their roles and make exceptional contributions to student life in traditional (classroom) or nontraditional educational settings.
The Chancellor’s Excellence in Advising Award recognizes the integral role of academic advising in the teaching mission of the university. These awards seek to reward individuals who are uniquely effective in helping students meet their educational and professional goals.
- Previous recipients of this award (within the past 5 years) are ineligible.
- Nominees must have at least two years experience at University of Tennessee Knoxville campuses at the time of nomination and be able to provide the names of 3 advisees as references.
- The nominee and selected advisees must be available for interviews during the month of February.

Summary of Awards Process
- Nomination Letters will be solicited from administrators, faculty, and students during the months of October 2007.
- Unless the number of nominees is excessively large, supporting material will be solicited from all nominees before the end of Fall Semester. Supporting material at this stage will be limited to:
- 3 page curriculum vitae
- 1 page statement of Advising Philosophy
- Names of up to 3 advisees to serve as primary references.
- The Council will select finalists in early January.
- Up to ten finalists will be notified and interview visits/emails or phone calls with advisees will be arranged during the months of January and February.
- Up to 15 finalists will be notified and classroom or other observation visits will be arranged during the months of January and February.
- Up to 3 full-time, tenure track and 3 part-time or non-tenure track final winners will be selected and names provided to the Chancellor’s office.
- Awards will be announced at the Spring Honors Banquet.
